I want you to think back to when you decided to become a Realtor. Why did you pick that path? Why did you get your real estate license? Why do you put all your blood, sweat and tears into selling homes?
This is an important concept to consider. Remember why you’re a Realtor.
Finding Your Why
As Simon Sinek has explained in his TED talk (CLICK HERE to watch the video), there are three questions you must answer in your business: What, How, Why. Although “what” and “how” are the easiest to answer, “why” is the most important. Without your why, you lack purpose and passion. Without your why, you’ll be “just another realtor.”
As Simon said, “People don’t by what you do, they buy why you do it.”
Many people are not able to answer the “why” question. CAN YOU?!
Why
Why are you in real estate? Why do you sell homes? Why do you help people find their dream homes? What’s your purpose, your passion, your belief?
Find your purpose! Decide WHY you do what you do! “Why?” is just a small question, but the answer makes all the difference!
People want to do business with someone they believe in, someone they trust, someone they see has passion. Be that person!
If you don’t know why you’re in real estate, how do you expect them to work with you?
How
How do you do your job?
Between your knowledge, expertise and good people skills, you use different tools to help buyers find their dream home and/or sell their home.

Although it’s important to be able to answer this question, it’s not what drives your business.
What
Everyone can explain “what” they do. As a Realtor, you “help people find their dream home” and “sell homes for top dollar.” Right?
Well, yes and no… Yes, that may be what you do essentially, but you really do so much more than that!
You are a real estate adviser! You clarify the real estate process to your clients and provide them with expertise. You give them the knowledge that can only be gained through training and years of experience.
You’re more valuable than a sign in their yard and an MLS on your website. You are their mentor.
THIS is WHAT you do. Be more than just another realtor, be that trust friend and teacher.
What you do is proof of your why. Use it that way.
Do You Know Why?
So now I want you to think about your business. Do you know why you do what you do? Why do spend all your time selling and buying homes in such a volatile market?
Are you wondering just how to determine your why? Sit down and write out answers to these three questions: Why do you do what you do? How do you accomplish it? What is it that you do?
